  • Taylor Swift thrills fans as she announces she's set to headline Glastonbury 2020's Sunday slot for the festival's 50th anniversary By Niomi Harris For Mailonline 17:36 15 Dec 2019, updated 18:26.
  • Pop icon Taylor Swift certainly knows a thing or two about milestones, she taught us the most important lessons about growing up in “Fifteen”, celebrated the vibrancy of youth in “22” and pulled a Prince by immortalising the 20th century with her album 1989, but I think ushering in her 30th birthday by announcing a headline slot at Glastonbury has to be the winner, right?

Swift took to Twitter to announce the news last night, posing with a copy of the Glastonbury Free Press that reads “From Christmas Tree Farm to Worthy Farm”. The high-profile gig sees her join the likes of Paul McCartney for the iconic festivals 50th anniversary, and also makes her the sixth solo female headliner in the festival’s 50-year history.

'She’s one of the biggest stars in the world and her songs are absolutely amazing. We’re so delighted.”

Of course any true Swiftie could have seen this coming from a mile off, following the absence of UK dates from her worldwide ‘Lover Fest’ after she announced the US and European legs of the tour earlier this year. For those of us who missed out on Glastonbury tickets , we have two options: jumping the fence (high risk but VERY high reward) or catching Swift on her only other UK solo date at Hyde Park’s BST Lover Fest takeover in July (which could only be high reward). We’ll let you decide the path you take.

The 1975 want to headline Glastonbury Festival 2019

It was over a year ago that The 1975 first teased the follow-up to their 2016’s I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware of It.

Earlier today (Thursday 31st May), The 1975 went on Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show to debut their new long-awaited single “Give Yourself A Try”. Frontman Matty Healy also revealed the band’s audacious plans for next year which would see them hit the touring road in January 2019.

“I think it’s about time you headlined some major festivals,” said Mac (obviously hinting at Glastonbury Festival) – Healy’s reply was somewhat discombobulated saying: “haha, so do we, anyway, um, we’ve got a lot, um, yeh”.

The Mancunian band also announced they’ll be releasing two albums in the next 12 months – with the first due out in October, bearing the name ‘A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships’, will be followed by ‘Notes On A Conditional Form’ which is set to drop in May of next year, just one month prior to Glastonbury 2019.
