That piece of legislation determined that gambling was only legal in certain licensed gambling establishments and established a monopoly over lotteries, horse racing betting and other sports betting for the Hong Kong Jockey Club.     Hong Kong Treaty Series
    Hong Kong Treaty Series has been launched on HKLII. This is an electronically searchable database containing full text of (1) arrangements with the Macao SAR, (2) arrangements with the Mainland China, (3) bilateral agreements and (4) treaties that are applicable to Hong Kong. Hong Kong Treaty Series is a knowledge exchange project of the University of Hong Kong (HKU) conducted by the HKLII team with the financial support from the HKU Knowledge Exchange Fund.

    Neutral Citations Officially Adopted by the Judiciary with Effect from 1 January 2018
    In accordance with the Practice Direction 5.5, issued on 1 December 2017, official neutral citations will be used by the Judiciary for all Hong Kong judgments delivered after 1 January 2018. Official neutral citations have to be cited for judgments delivered after that date in the following format:
    [Year] Court Abbreviation Number (e.g. [2018] HKDC 12)
    in which
    Year refers to the year of the written delivery of judgment;
    Court abbreviation stands for the court in which the case was heard;
    Number indicates the running number starting from 1.
    HKLII will follow the Judiciary’s neutral citations and cease to assign HKLII’s neutral citations to judgments. The court abbreviations used by HKLII for judgments delivered before 1 January 2018 have been revised to follow the Judiciary’s court abbreviations, which are as follows:

    Advanced Search
    HKLII has launched a new advanced search page in which users can now input keywords in as many fields as possible to do fine searches.
    Legislative History
    A comparison feature for legislation has been launched. This new feature shows the changes between any two versions of the same Ordinance/Regulation/Instrument. For example, it can show the old and current versions of s. 25 of the Defamation Ordinance.
    AutoComplete
    The autocomplete feature is now available in the simple search and advanced search page. This feature is applied to searching cases and legislation. In the simple search, when the first few letters of the first party name or legislation name are typed, the search engine will look up titles of cases and legislation to provide suggestions. In the advanced search, the feature is available for the fields of citation, case name, legislation name, document title, coram of judgment, parties representation and charge.
    Appeal History
    The appeal history feature is now available in HKLII. The following citations are included in the appeal history page of HKLII: (1) HKLII neutral citation; (2) HKLRD citation that has already been put in HKLII, but not yet in Judiciary’s website; and (3) HKC citation. The link to appeal history can be found in the menu bar above case names of any cases which have appeal history.
